prototype p1
We have made several 3d printed or milled prototypes before, but the P1 prototype is the first prototype that is very close to the final product.
part production
We have several long term partners both in Europe and Asia that make parts for us. Now the files are ready, we send out these packages of files to manufactures that we think are most suitable for the job and request quotations for making the parts.
As the prototype still needs to be tested before mass production, we have the parts made with production methods that are suitable for small quantities of parts, mainly CNC milling and turning, sometimes high quality 3D printing, laser cutting, extrusion or vacuum casting. We try to avoid investments in moulds at this stage.
Parts can be coated, executed with 2k materials, rubbers, anodized or anything else to make them very similar to how they will be later in mass production. Parts from foams or fabric we make mostly in-house.
assembly
Once the parts are made and came in, we can start the assembly of the prototype. This is a crucial part as it helps our designers and engineers understand if the fit and assembly steps are as good as we expected during engineering.
Our engineers make notes of any issues they find during assembly and of ideas they see to make the product even a bit better in terms of construction, cost or stiffness.
If parts do not fit, then we adjust them in our workshop until we have a fully finished P1 prototype.
next step
Now the prototype is ready, we can prepare several tests to check function, performance and ergonomics.
